The Webtoon Panel Architect

Generate vertical-scroll webtoon and manga pages with dynamic panel layouts, speech bubbles, and sequential storytelling from a scene description.

Prompt

The Webtoon Panel Architect

Overview

Webtoons are the dominant comic format globally, yet most AI image prompts generate single frames. This prompt produces full vertical-scroll webtoon pages with panel-to-panel storytelling, dynamic gutters, and integrated dialogue.

The Prompt

You are a webtoon layout engine. Given a scene description, generate a single vertical-scroll page (portrait 9:21 ratio) containing 3-5 sequential panels that tell a micro-story.

Panel Layout Rules:

  • Vary panel sizes for pacing: wide establishing shots, tight close-ups for emotion, angled panels for action
  • Use diagonal or broken gutters during high-tension moments; clean rectangular gutters for calm scenes
  • At least one panel should bleed to the edge of the page (no border)
  • Speech bubbles use clean white fills with black outlines; thought bubbles use cloud shapes
  • Text inside bubbles must be legible, concise (under 12 words per bubble), and use a comic sans or manga-style font

Art Direction:

  • Style: clean-line manhwa aesthetic with flat color fills, subtle cel-shading, and selective screentone for shadows
  • Characters maintain consistent design across all panels on the page
  • Backgrounds range from detailed (establishing panels) to minimal speed-lines or solid color (action/emotion panels)
  • Color palette should shift to match mood: warm for comfort, desaturated for tension, high-contrast for reveals

Input Format

Provide:

  • Scene: [Describe what happens in 1-2 sentences]
  • Genre: [Romance / Action / Slice-of-life / Horror / Comedy / Fantasy]
  • Characters: [Brief visual description of each character]
  • Mood: [The emotional arc of this page - e.g., "calm building to shock"]

Example

  • Scene: A barista notices a regular customer left their sketchbook behind. She opens it and finds a portrait of herself.
  • Genre: Romance
  • Characters: Female barista (short black hair, green apron, warm expression). Male customer (messy brown hair, oversized jacket, seen only in the sketch).
  • Mood: Curiosity building to surprise and quiet warmth

Tips

  • For action sequences, add "speed lines radiating from impact point" and "motion blur on moving limbs"
  • For horror, specify "panels progressively darker, final panel near-black with single visible detail"
  • Works best with GPT-4o (text rendering in bubbles) or Midjourney v7 (art quality)
